Introducing Our New OSS Mission: Funding Service Dogs for Veterans & First Responders
At Our Shepherds Shepherds (OSS), we’ve always believed that a well-trained dog can change a family’s future. But for our nation’s warriors—our military veterans and first responders—a trained PTSD service dog can change a life. Today, we’re excited to announce a new mission that has been growing in our hearts for months: the launch of the OSS Service Dog Support Program, a nonprofit-driven effort designed to help fund service dogs and PTSD training for those who sacrificed so much for us.
Why This Program Matters
Too many of our heroes return home carrying invisible wounds. PTSD, chronic anxiety, depression, and trauma-related challenges affect their daily lives, relationships, and sense of safety. A professional service dog—especially a stable, high-drive, FCI Dutch Shepherd—can bring grounding, confidence, and lifesaving support. But cost is a major barrier.
An FCI Dutch Shepherd from OSS is $3,000, and training from basic obedience, to advanced obedience, to specialized PTSD service dog training is completed in phases of $2,500 each. A full program totals around $8,500 in training alone, not including ongoing support and follow-ups.
Most veterans and first responders simply cannot carry that burden on their own. That’s where this new OSS initiative steps in.
What We’re Building
The OSS Service Dog Support Program will raise funds to fully or partially sponsor veterans and first responders who need a trained service dog through OSS. Our goal is to make these life-changing dogs accessible—removing financial barriers and replacing them with hope, stability, and renewed purpose.
We will highlight:
Real stories from veterans and first responders
Dutch Shepherd pups as they grow and enter training
The behind-the-scenes process of PTSD-specific work
Updates on funded recipients and their journeys
This project isn’t just another program—it’s a mission. It’s community rising up for community. It’s warriors helping warriors.
How We Will Raise Funds
We’re launching several ways for the OSS family and the public to get involved:
🎥 Social Media Livestream Fundraisers
We’ll host livestreams of training sessions, Q&A with veterans, demonstrations, and special guest appearances from military and police K9 handlers. These events will allow supporters to donate in real time.
🤝 Veteran & First Responder Volunteer Team
OSS veterans, current dog owners, and supporters in law enforcement and the military will help us spread awareness, share testimony, and participate in community events and livestreams.
📢 Awareness Through YouTube, Reels, & Shorts
Consistent videos showcasing service dog training, the impact on mental health, and stories of transformation will reach thousands.
🏛 Community Partnerships
We will seek support from churches, businesses, patriotic organizations, and private donors who want to directly impact the life of a veteran or first responder.
What Makes OSS Different
We don’t mass-produce dogs.
We don’t cut corners on training.
We don’t forget the purpose behind the mission.
Every Dutch Shepherd is bred for clarity of mind, strength of nerve, and dedication to their handler. Every training phase—basic, advanced, and PTSD-focused—prepares the dog to not just obey, but serve and protect their human in the deepest sense of the word.
These dogs save lives.
And together, we can help put them into the hands of the heroes who need them.
Join the Mission
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be rolling out more details, fundraising livestream dates, a sponsorship application for veterans and first responders, and ways for supporters to get involved.
This is just the beginning.
And with your help, OSS will stand in the gap—one warrior, one dog, one life at a time.
Stay tuned. The mission starts now.
